A bright chilly day for an excellent walk followed by
lunch at the Victoria Inn.
The annual tradition of presenting Ernie's Stirring Prize
was abandoned this year as it had previously been given
to Derek in honour of his many years service to the Group.
Alan & Daphne formally handed over the Walks Co-ordinater
baton to Joy and in return were presented with long service
medals by Ernie.
In reply Alan gave a splendidly comical dissertation on
the joys of belonging to the Group, a typical comment being
"...such a nice bunch of people, unfortunately none
of them here today"
Ernie presented his usual not-to-be-missed humorous summary
of the years highlights (click here to read the transcript
) and Tony handed out copies of a DVD of photos taken on
the walks set to music..
A beautiful sunny morning walk from Ashprington along
the River Dart to Totnes (where Ernie had to be forceably
restrained from entering the Chip Shop) before returning
to Ashprington for lunch at the Durrant Arms. Wonderful
river views and Autumn colours.
Warmer than average for this time of the year occasionally
overcast, eighteen walkers started from the NT offices at
Parke, Bovey Tracey and went via the old railway line to
Lustleigh where we had a leisurely pub lunch before returning
to Parke. All agreed it was a most enjoyable walk.
A warm and pleasant day, lovely scenery, but we were let
down by the "Journeys End" pub being inexplicably
closed. Also, by a perverse freak of nature, the tide insisted
on covering the causeway to Burgh Island thus denying us
the pleasure of completing the walk as planned.

A very enjoyable walk (4.6 miles) that included a coffee
stop at BP Castle. We made the Smokey Pub by 1.30pm and
had a very cordial 'Birthday' lunch to celebrate Derek's
80th birthday.
A pleasant walk of 4.6 miles finishing with a 2 course
lunch for £4 each at the The Star Inn, Ilsington.

A bright but chilly day for a 6.7 mile walk alongside the
river and canal, all on the level and on good hard paths.
Lunch at the Double Locks Hotel. (We were fortunate not
to have Ernie as the Leader on as he failed to navigate
himself to the starting point, a feat which could have qualified
him for his own "Stirring Prize" award this year)
