Notes of watching the videos:

On a slow connection there may be some hesitation on the first playing. As the download proceeds the video will be stored in the "cache" and should display properly on a second playing.

High Definition Videos

With Youtube HD videos, after the video starts it will show a bar at the bottom of the video.

If you left-click your mouse on the number (or it may be a cog symbol) showing at the right hand side of the bar you should get a pop-up allowing you to choose a resolution, as per the picture shown here.

The resolution will probably be showing as 240p or 360p but experiment to see how the quality improves as you go up the scale.

The symbol on the extreme right will toggle Full Screen on or off. Check to see what is the highest fullscreen resolution you can use.
1080p HD is the highest definition and you will need a fast connection to achieve this. With any luck you should be able to select 720p and get a reasonable picture. For poorer connection speeds reduce the setting to 240p though at this level the full screen experience will be disappointing.

Videos on Youtube

Many Youtube videos will display an advertisement for a few seconds at the start of the video. You can turn this off by clicking the cross at the top top-right corner of the advert.

Some videos are unplayable on certain operating systems, eg iPhones and iPads because of copyright restrictions. Usually they all work fine on normal PCs. Please let me know if any of the videos fail to work on your system.

Some of my older videos need a "Flash" player to work so if your browser asks to install a Flash plugin, let it do so. If you're viewing this website on an Apple iPhone, iPad, or iPod , then I'm afraid you won't be able to watch "Flash" videos as it is Apple's policy not to support "Flash" on these products.

Most of these "Flash" videos have been uploaded at a low resolution so will not display very well at Full Screen, particularly if you're still on dial-up. Still, give it a try if you like.
Flash Videos which are capable of being watched at Full Screen will have a small symbol to represent a widescreen TV near the bottom right hand corner. Click this to toggle Full Screen on & off. However the result will not be particularly pleasing, which is another reason I am moving to High Definition.

One unfortunate feature of Youtube videos is that they tend to display adverts at the bottom of the screen when your browser allows. Turn these off by clicking the small X at the top-right of the advert.

Fifteen walkers arrived at Stokeinteignhead on a warm windless day for the start of this walk. Graham explained to the assembled company the true derivation of the name of the village, informing us that the name had nothing at all to do with any river, Teign or otherwise. According to the Domesday Book the district contained thirteen manors which totalled an area of ten hides and the whole area was known as the "Ten Hide".

We then followed what Graham described as a "difficult" 5 mile walk out of the village onto the coastal path at Labrador Bay and into Shaldon, then via Ringmore back to the start where we had a most convivial lunch at the Church House Inn.

Along the way Graham managed to lose most of his troops when having marched them up to the top of a hill they stopped for a rest and a blackberry snack while Graham continued to march on to the bottom of the hill. None of the snackers noticed which direction their leader had taken so took the opportunity to emulate lost sheep whilst trying to work out how to operate their mobile phones. A somewhat embarrased Graham had to reverse his tracks and march back to the top of the hill so he could march his wayward troops down to the bottom of the hill.

All agreed that Graham is now the odds on favourite for the annual "Ernie Award"
